Description
Completed in 1883, The Brooklyn Bridge connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. The bridge is Iconic both internationally and locally and was a symbol of achievement and modernity at the time it was built. References to "selling the Brooklyn Bridge" are embedded in American cultural consciousness. Because of its achievement, history and beauty it has been a muse for artists, photographers and writers since its opening. The title of this photograph is an homage to the Poem "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry," by Walt Whitman, who wrote the poem before the Bridge was built and, for a time, was the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, just blocks from the Bridge on the Brooklyn side.
